– husband and wife hospitalised with burns
Police on the East Coast of Demerara are still hunting for a man who they believe is responsible for a blaze that destroyed a two-storey wooden and concrete house at Enmore North around 23:00 hours on Friday.
The man, Deonarine Mohamed, reportedly threw gasoline around the house then set it on fire following a row with his father, Osman Mohamed, who owns the property.
Osman Mohamed and his wife, Gaitree Dhanraj, are now hospitalised with burns about their bodies as a result of the fire.
Police in a press release stated that their investigations have revealed that Osman Mohamed and his son, Deonarine Mohamed had an argument during which it is alleged that his son threw gasoline around the home and set it on fire.
The blaze was subsequently extinguished by Guyana Fire Service personnel.
Kaieteur News understands that the police received information yesterday morning that a man fitting the suspect’s description was in a minibus and was heading toward the city.
The bus was intercepted at Vigilance on the East Coast of Demerara and the man was taken into custody.
However, when relatives of the family turned up at the station, they told police that the man they had arrested was not the suspect.
Investigations are continuing.
