– Langevine ready to create upsets
His name is not synonymous with many of the local racing greats, but what Ike Langevine has done was to create a niche of his own that could become a legacy at the end of what can be predicted as an illustrious career.
Langevine has been honing his skills in drag racing for close to four years now and today, he admits, he is ready to take his ability to the highest level-the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) National Drag Racing competition.
He will be competing in the 1601-2000 CC category of the competition with his EK3 1998 Honda Civic, and promises to upset all who dare come up against him in an effort to establish himself as the national drag-racing king.
“My only competition is the Hondas from Suriname and Turbo guys but once I get a good launch off the line and be consistent with my time, I don’t see them as having much of an advantage,” Langevine told Kaieteur Sport yesterday.
He said that his machine has been in the making for about three years and nine months with Top Power Racing, based in Guyana, and Engine Computer Unit, based in Suriname, working on the engine and tuning respectively.
Langevine revealed that he is fully confident and “once everything goes well, I will be able to perform good”. He said that he does not anticipate any transmission problems, which is the only factor that can put him out of contention.
The South Dakota Circuit will become a hive of activity today when the GMR&SC stages the first ever national and international drag racing competition.
