Attorney at law Gregory D. Gaskin has been returned unopposed as president of the Guyana Association of Private Security Organizations (GAPSO).
The association on Wednesday last held its Annual General Meeting at which a new executive committee was elected.
Gaskin, a former army officer and chairman of COPS Guyana Limited, was reelected to head the new executive for the period 2010 to 2012.
Roderick King of MMC Security services replaces Randy Storm of Banks DIH as Secretary, and Dougal Kirkpatrick was returned unopposed as Treasurer.
The other Committee members are newly elected Carlos Beaton of Laparkan, and Clyde Layne of Neal & Massy Security.
Gaskin in his report at the AGM highlighted the activities of the previous term of office. These included outreaches to children in depressed areas of the inner city, a joint survey with National Aids Programme Secretariat (NAPS) into the health and well being of employees within the industry, competition pistol shoot and a fun-day for all employees.
The new term will afford the Association opportunities to broaden its membership which now includes 20 members representing some 5000 employees within the industry.
The New Executive also intends to expand on the work of its training sub-committee that is headed by Maurice Amres of GEB and Norman Mc Lean of Omai, so as to conduct security seminars for the Senior Management of Public and Private Sector entities.
During the last term, close working ties were re-established between GAPSO, the Commissioner of Police and the Guyana Police Force.
The GAPSO President sees it as imperative that the organization with its wide footprint in all 10 regions, would make available as far as is practical, its varied resources to assist the Guyana Police Force in its onerous task of maintaining law and order.
