When competition in the Bakewell sponsored Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) annual 15 overs Inter-Jamaat softball round-robin cricket competition continued last Sunday at the MYO and LBI Grounds, Farm C, Queenstown, De Edward, Land of Canaan, Triumph and Lusignan were all in winner’s row.
Matches that were scheduled for the National Park were not played due to the flooded nature of the Park.
At the MYO Ground, Farm C batting first against De Edward were bowled out for 153; Ameer Azeez hitting 47 and Yunus Mohammed 38. Ameer Ally was the pick of the bowlers with 4-28 and Afraz Moheed 3-25 for De Edward who were skittled out for 41 in 10.3 overs. Ally led with the bat for the losers with 19. Leading the rout with the ball for Farm C was Toney Matharan with 3-10, Budhan Baksh 2-7 and Yunus Mohammed 2-1.
Queenstown won the toss against Windsor Forest ‘East’ and decided to take first strike, posting a massive 204-1 in their allotted 15 overs. Fadil Ahmad blasted an unbeaten 99 and Imran Ally 58 not out with Abdullah Roberts contributing 20.
Razack Mohamed picked up the lone wicket to fall for 44 runs as Windsor Forest East in reply never threatened the Queenstown total, ending on 127-9. Mohamed Javed 29 and Mohamed Zakir 24 were the only batsmen to negotiate the bowling which was led by Javed Kayum 3-20, Safraz Hyderally 2-12 and Imran Ally 1-17.
Mohammed’s XI won the toss against De Edward and took first strike. They posted 130 losing 9 wickets along the way. Haroon Bacchus top scored with 35 and Fizul, an undefeated 34.
Rustum Bacchus with 3-27 and Alim Inshan 2-17 led the bowling for De Edward who hit off the required runs as they reached 134-8 in 13.3 overs.
Aftab Ghanie stroked 35 and Ameer Ally 33 in paving the way for victory.
LBI B taking first strike against Land of Canaan were restricted to 108-7; Fazal Hussein topping with 43 and Rasheed Ali 20.
Naresh Chuniram snared 4-18 and Martin Dookie 2-7 for LBI B who reached 109 for the loss of a single wicket. Feroze Mohammed slammed 50 with support from Ally Haniff (26) and Irshad Mohammed 20.
At the LBI Ground, LBI A batted first against Triumph and were sent packing for 93 with Akram Ali striking 32. Safdar Ali and Ajay Khan picked up 2 wickets each for Triumph who eased to 94-4; Shazim Hussain hit 30 while Ali returned with the bat to contribute 25.
Success batting first against Lusignan posted 146-3; Mustagh Mustapha 51, Asif Singh 23 and Azzarudeen Haniff 18 were the main contributors. Lusignan in reply reached 147-6.
Meanwhile, action will continue on Sunday at three venues. At MYO, the host team (MYO) will face Land of Canaan from 09:00hrs, Providence oppose Triumph from 11:00hrs with the final match of the day featuring Kitty and Queenstown from 15:00hrs. The National Park will host a clash between Wales and Grove from 09:00hrs with Wales being in action again against Mon Repos A two hours later.
At the LBI Ground, from 09:00hrs, Mon Repos B tackle Farm B, Mohammed’s XI face LBI A from 11:00hrs and Farm A challenge Lusignan from 13:00hrs.
