– STAG comes good on promise
The quantity of table tennis equipment that the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) procured from India-based STAG International arrived in Guyana late last month and is still at an unnamed wharf awaiting clearance.
General Secretary of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe confirmed yesterday that the shipment of table tennis equipment is in Guyana when he said that the container is going through due process before it is finally cleared later this week.
“We hope to get the container out later this week or early next week,” Munroe told this newspaper when contacted for an update on the first shipment of equipment that is part of a three-year sponsorship deal with STAG International.
Munroe had indicated in a separate interview before the arrival of the container that the sport is in need of much more structure, which is why the GTTA worked feverishly on getting the outside help to develop table tennis holistically.
“Infrastructure is required to get things off the ground. It will bring some structure to the preparation of our national teams. It’s a good fillip because our image will be enhanced and that is always good,” Munroe had indicated.
Among the items to be received are 10 competition tables, 30 national team uniforms that include two training pants and two jerseys for each player and bags. The initiative is part of the association schools and decentralisation programme.
