Interior police are still on the hunt for the killer of 40-year- old Troy Hanover, called ‘Shine Rice’, who was hacked to death on Sunday following a row. Hanover had his abdomen sliced open.
Hanover’s body along with that of a Brazilian miner who was crushed to death by a fallen tree, was brought to the city yesterday and is presently at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
Police sources said that Hanover was chopped by the suspect because of an accusation of stealing a quantity of raw gold. The incident occurred at a shop at Mousie Landing, Konawaruk.
The shop where the murder occurred was subsequently torched while the proprietress was at the Mahdia Police Station informing ranks about the incident.
Yesterday, the dead man’s mother, Desiree Koster-Dainty, and other relatives waited for hours for his body to arrive from the interior.
They all broke down in tears upon seeing his intestines protruding from the gaping wound in his abdomen.
Koster-Dainty who had not seen her son in several years was most affected by the sight.
She said that around 08:30 hours on Sunday she received a call from her son-in- law who informed her that Hanover had been murdered.
Koster-Dainty, who lives at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, immediately went to the Providence Police Station with the aim of gathering more information on the fate of her son.
“The girl at the station call up and they say that they ain’t get no message. She gave me some numbers to call. I come back home and get some boys to call up to Madhia,” Koster-Dainty told Kaieteur News.
Having confirmed her son’s death, the woman prepared herself for the arrival of his body from the interior.
She said that apart from the reports she read in the newspapers, she had no details of what led to her son’s death.
“It got to be something because my son is not no bad man. He does be working mekkin joke and he does be between dem Brazilians. Nobody never gave no bad report about him,” the dead man’s mother said.
“It was really shocking when I hear what happened to my son,” the woman added.
Hanover who has been working in the interior from the age of 14-years-old has no children but leaves to mourn his mother and eight siblings.
A post mortem examination will be performed on his body tomorrow.
