– Zionata, Celebration Time and Lady of my Dreams, also in winners’ row
Pinch D cash of the Rumours Racing stable was in a ‘no deal mood’ ripping the opposition apart as it tore another big chunk of the day’s takings in winning the co-feature ‘E’ class event at the Anjue and Hamlet Race Club Meet which was staged at the entity’s Headquarters, Branch Road, Mahaicony.
Owned by Steve Muthoo, the horse crushed the field to claim its second successive win in as many races since returning to the track after a lengthy lay off.
If its last win was considered an upset, then Sunday’s triumph which was more convincing, confirmed that the animal is back to its best and will be a force to reckon with for the rest of the season.
Getting out of the starting gates a bit slow, the early running was made by the highly regarded Home Bush Baby and Madame Butterfly, who were hotly pursued by Sea Rocket and the three set a searing pace as they headed up the back stretch, alternating the lead constantly.
Around the far turn, all the horses were tightly bunched and it looked like anybody’s race for the top prize of $260,000 and the AS Construction trophy in the 1200m sprint.
Into the home stretch they came still locked together in a fierce battle, but with about one furlong to go Pinch D Cash ridden by the young and fast improving Mark Vossey made their move quickly accelerating from the rest of the field to score a convincing win by six lengths.
Home Bush Baby came second followed by Mattarazzi and Sea Rocket in that order.
The three year old West Indies and Guyana bred 1500m race had no such controversy as the previous one when Peaceful out of the Colin Elcock stable and Zenyatta from the Jumbo Jet Farm raced to a heart stopping controversial photo finish that was Sunday declared a dead heat by the officials.
The race sponsored by Anjue & Hamlet that had the Rosignol Branch of Republic Bank trophy at stake saw Zionata ridden by overseas based Sunny Singh of the Jumbo Jet stable beat the field over1200m.
Known for its early speed, Zionata perhaps was surprised by the manner in which she was challenged by the other horses as they battled courageously for the lead. However, she was not daunted by the challenge, but rather waited patiently and made her drive for the winning post in emphatic fashion, comfortably holding off a game but outclassed Stormy Lass, while Gabriel’s Gold and Sky is the Limit rounded out the top four.
Zionata’s connections carted off the top prize of $300,000.
It was a dream day for Lady of my Dreams ridden by Sookhoo of the Crawford stable as it came through with a blistering finish to take the very competitive ‘G’ class event carrying with it the Chico Singh trophy and the $160,000 winners take.
The 1500m event started with Rude Boy, Casino Royal and Zip a De Do Dah followed by Prixie Fire burning up the track as they set a blistering gallop.
Prixie Fire took over the lead and was looking good until Lady of my Dreams arrived to take the first spot. Prixie Fire, Casino Royal and Prospectors Pride had to settle for the other places.
There was much celebration for the connection in the Colin Elcock stable as Celebration Time battered its rival into submission in the race for the three year-old animals bred and born in Guyana.
After much competition in the early course of the Digicel sponsored 1500m race.
It was all over bar the shouting as Celebration Time mounted by Paul Delph took things by the scruff of the neck to win by some eight lengths, taking with it the $200,000 up for grabs and the Digicel trophy.
Stormy Water, De Gump and Lyana all had a rough day in the arena.
Dream Girl of the Chico Singh stable had a dream day as it chalked up another win in the ‘I’ 3 race for horses that would have won races before. DE Gump, Clear Victory and Blessed Child were next pass the post for the N. Singh Trophy and the $120 000 winner’s stake over 1200m.
Infinity decided to gave its name some justice in chalking up its first win on the track with victory in the ‘I’3 race for horses that would have never won an event.
The win was worth $120,000 sponsored by Sankar Auto woks for the Chen Singh trophy also over 1200m.
Graphic of the Kyte stable with Floris in the stirrups rode away from Lenny’s O Halo, President Junior and No Body Knows to win the division 2 & 3 race which was worth $100,000 and The Chico Chester trophy. That distance was also 1200m.
Paul Delph was unstoppable as he rode to three victories and the Champion jockey trophy.
He along with champion trainer Fazal Habibulla was presented with their trophies and medals compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the trophy Stall Bourda Market.
Over 60 animals took part in the day’s activities which had close to $3M available.
