Dear Editor,
Can the Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) say whether Mr. Odinga Lumumba paid capital gains tax on the land he resold?
From what I understand, he waited four years. Had the land revalued from $1.5 million to $38 million and then a transport passed for that sum. So now the transport shows $38 million and the sale agreement $38 million. Does that mean he pays no capital gains tax to the Government?
What a sweetheart of the PPP. He got the land as a gift almost and now quite possibly has to pay no capital gains tax from the sale. And what a profit!
What is Mr. Sattuar doing about this particular sale? These are the money the Government deserves that he should go after. This is capital gains tax that must be paid.
Do your job Mr. Sattuar. Clean up the mess, and go after the big wigs who circumvent the system. Maybe then you don’t have to go after the poor people.
And I advise the PPP/C Government, get your bigwigs to pay the tax on profits they make and reduce the VAT. Also do not include homes and cars in property tax assessment if the person only owns one home.
