The election season is upon us. The pro PPP/Government propagandists (including the fourth Musketeer, Peeping Tom; yes I know who the main one is) will be on the hunt. Sad thing about the Government’s propaganda machine is that it lacks credibility and the incompetence in the marshalling of facts helps to make the show look comical. Two of these apologists have picked on Frederick Kissoon in yesterday’s edition of this paper. And they come up short as usual. They are Randy Persaud and Ravi Dev.
Persaud is objecting to the use of the term “fascist” and “elected dictatorship” by me in my evaluation of the Government of Guyana and is annoyed that I refer to the Berbice Bridge as ugly. Not only is this bridge ugly. It is a colossal indictment of the failure of economics under Mr. Jagdeo.
This is an inelegant, cheap structure that underscores the impoverished nature of Guyana. When the bridge opened, the Guyana Times ran a supplement on it and couldn’t use photos of other constructions because such juxtaposition would have exposed the ugliness of this cheap item.
If you see the movie, “Bridge on the River Kwai” you would know that the span on the Berbice bridge is the basic, elementary kind of things that armies build.
So stupid was the Guyana Times that it published a photograph of one, single bridge in that supplement and it was an army construction by the US military engineers. Let the Times reprint that photograph. They never will. Maybe Persaud, who spent forty years out of Guyana, can show us a few photographs of the bridges he has seen in the countries he lived in.
Persaud’s letter yesterday “Serial pessimists stalk the land” is an arid output of incompetence. He selects a few things the Government has achieved and could not come up with one item that the Government of Guyana financed from money the country earned.
So he named the Berbice Bridge which is a private investment. The Stadium was built from a loan from India. The Takatu Bridge was only completed last year after Brazil ceased construction years before. Mr. Jagdeo certainly has to get a more competent PR guy.
We come now to Ravi Dev. Above I made the point of a lack of credibility on the part of these PPP apologists. Now let us take readers on the latest contours of Ravi Dev’s journey. Dev complained to the management of this newspaper that I listed him as an employee of the Office of the President when he was not. Next day, he penned a letter demanding an apology.
One wonders why a harmless thing like that would incite and excite Dev to want an apology. I had no proof that Dev was an OP employee so an apology was featured in my column the very next day. But I did call on Dev to offer me an apology too for penning in one of his pieces that I need to see a psychiatrist. To date he hasn’t done that.
In yesterday’s KN, Ravi Dev referred to the unstoppable incitement from provocateurs like Freddie Kissoon. Here is a man who is vexed and goes to the management of KN to complain that Kissoon says he is an employee of OP but this very man sees nothing wrong with calling me a provocateur.
Before I move off of this aspect of Dev’s culture, let me say Dev may not be an employee of OP but I do believe he is an apologist for OP and he is a propagandist for OP. As for future apologies to Dev, I don’t think any would be forthcoming.
Let’s get back to his attack on me in his column (Wow! Some Musketeers got an obsession with me). Dev’s examination of my writings in his piece yesterday is old news. He regurgitates his boring, jejune miasma – Kissoon’s writings are making for incitement.
He goes on with this ad infinitum. What he left us rather opportunistically is that a new East Indian writer, GHK Lall has penned a column last week in which he takes the position that the Burnham PNC devastated East Indians and now the PPP Government has imprisoned the Guyanese Africans in “a miserable gulag.” Dev couldn’t refer to GHK Lall because had he done that, he would have committed political suicide.
He would have alerted readers to the fact that another educated East Indian has concluded that the PPP/Jagdeo Government is destroying African-Guyanese. In the meantime, I would expect that apology from Dev.
