The jury in the trial against four men accused of the 2004 murder of taxi driver, Teddy Smith, on Saturday acquitted the last defendant Paul Jagnandan following two hours of deliberations.
Justice Brassington Reynolds had directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict after recalling a caution statement purportedly issued by the defendant.
Jagnandan was one of four persons originally charged with smith’s murder which occurred on October 24, 2004.
Two other defendants were freed last week, while another, Vijay Rajkumar, was freed a few days later.
Smith was found dead in the village of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara after the car he was driving was hijacked.
The suspects were reportedly nabbed the following day when they attempted to hijack another vehicle at ogle.
At the time of their arrests, the suspects were all teenagers.
Several witnesses testified at the trial including senior police officers who were stationed on the East Coast of Demerara at the time of the incident.
The case fell through despite investigators providing evidence of the suspects’ fingerprints on the stolen vehicle.
