“You lucky we ain’t kill she and tek de car” bandit tells father
Police are currently hunting for two men who carried out a daring robbery on the granddaughter of former Presidents Cheddi and Janet, and her friend.
Twenty-one year-old, Avasa Jagan, the daughter of Dr. Joey Jagan, said she and a friend had just driven into the driveway of her Charlotte Street residence when they were attacked by two men. She related that the incident occurred at around 03:00 hours. Avasa recalled that she had just exited the car and had already opened her front door when she and her friend were confronted by the men.
“They just came out of nowhere. One approached me, took my cell phone and my purse, while the other grabbed my friend’s cell phone. The one who attacked me then punched me in my face and they fled,” she recalled.
She added that although the door was open, the men did not make any attempt to enter the house but instead took their valuables and ran.
The men made good their escape with an undisclosed amount of cash, the woman’s identification card, and her US drivers’ license.
According to Avasa Jagan, she then collapsed but managed to drag herself upstairs and into her house. She added that her mother, after hearing the commotion, ran to her assistance. She was immediately taken to a hospital where she received five stitches to her upper lip for an injury she sustained during the robbery.
To add to the family’s horror, late yesterday they tried calling the cellular phone and much to their surprise a man answered.
The man then reportedly told the woman’s father “You lucky we ain’t kill she and tek de car”.
Dr. Joey Jagan who made the call and who spoke to the person said he was also threatened. He said that the person who answered his daughter’s phone told him that they would come to his home and kill him and everyone else.
The matter has since been reported to the police and investigations are ongoing.
