Police were last night trying to trace a driver who fled the scene after fatally injuring a motorcyclist on Mandela Avenue.
Gregory Greaves, 29, called ‘Bald Head’, of Lot 589 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, died on the spot around 19:00 hrs after he was crushed by a vehicle, which some eyewitnesses claimed was a CRV.
According to two eyewitnesses, Greaves was riding east along Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of Shirley Field-Ridley Square, when he lost control and fell on the roadway.
The eyewitnesses said that the motorcyclist was about to stand when a CRV, which was travelling in the same direction, crushed his skull. The driver then fled the scene.
Greaves was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim’s mother, Rose Ann Smith, told Kaieteur News that her son had visited her Campbellville home earlier in the evening.
He reportedly then left on a friend’s motorcycle.
Ms. Smith said that her son-in-law called some time after to tell her that Gregory had been injured.
The woman rushed to the GPHC where a doctor informed her that her son had died.
