Dear Editor,
My missive is prompted by the letter captioned, “Where is the justice that Sangeeta deserves?” (By Red Thread, SN 16-04-10)
It is just a small society, yet the so-called representatives of women could not provide a timely response to an incident that occurred more than two weeks ago.
And when they eventually did, it seemed as though they’re trying to place the tragedy within the context of race and religion.
While they claim not to want to make a comment on Dr. Misir’s letter, they indicated, “….what amounts to a religious/racial debate between him (meaning Dr. Misir) and Mr. Juan Edghill”. For all intents and purposes that is, indeed a comment.
What is the basis of this opinion? In his letter of April 4, 2010, Dr. Misir merely expressed his concern on the Hindu leadership and their failure to ameliorate the poverty existing within the Hindu community.
Like me, Dr. Prem Misir is calling for a probe into this tragedy. How can this be seen as a racial and religious issue?
And it is unfortunate that Mr. Edghill has taken this tragedy to the Ethnic Relations Commission.
I am not aware that this is a racial issue.
