A father who is accused of sodomising his seven-year-old son was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The 40-year-old man is accused of committing the act between September 1, 2005 and February 5, 2006.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was unrepresented in court yesterday. The matter was called up to the bench and after a lengthy discussion the accused was remanded. The matter was put down for April 22.
Also appearing in the same court was 17-year-old Richard Holder, of 291 Independence Boulevard.
It was alleged that on March 5, he maliciously damaged one cell phone worth $25,000, property of Elizabeth Mohabir. It was further alleged that on the same day he unlawfully assaulted her cousin, Samantha Lall.
He pleaded guilty to all the charges. Mohabir told the Magistrate that she did not want to proceed with the matter, but she wanted Holder to replace her cell phone.
His mother, who was present in court, told the Magistrate that Holder should be remanded because he assaults her too.
The woman, Jasoda Sundar, said that on March 4, she asked her son to perform a domestic chore and he cuffed her to the chest.
The woman said she made a report at the Ruimveldt Police Station.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail which was denied by the Magistrate. Holder is expected to make another court appearance on May 4.
