A third person who was fingered in Wednesday’s Digicel Cell Smart Vreed-en-Hoop branch robbery has been arrested. This newspaper was told that around 05:30 hours yesterday, police, acting on information received, went to a house at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop. This newspaper was also told that the car which was used during the robbery has also been located.
On Wednesday last, two men posing as customers entered the Digicel store where they tied up two female employees and robbed the store. Two public-spirited citizens noticed when the men exited the store and entered a waiting car and gave chase while simultaneously making contact via telephone with the police.
The chase led the pursuers some four miles away from the robbery scene and the perpetrators were subsequently apprehended by police ranks in a minibus at Harlem. No handgun was recovered but a bag was found, containing cellular phones valued at some $300,000. As investigations continue, a fourth suspect is being sought, with the three in custody expected to be charged following an identification parade.
