Forty-three year-old Luis Mc Donald of 23 Da Silva Street, Newtown, who pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter and larceny was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Mc Donald entered the dwelling house of Ken Brune and stole articles worth $150,000.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that Brune secured his home and left. He returned about an hour later and discovered a number of things missing from his home.
When asked by the magistrate if he had anything to say Mc Donald said that he never broke into the house.
He said that he saw a bed frame outside in the yard and thought no one wanted it so he took it. The man said that he was going to sell the bed frame when Brune pulled up in a vehicle.
Mc Donald said that he was beaten and told to return the item to its place of origin.
After the explanation the magistrate jailed Mc Donald.
And 48-year-old William Nurse appeared before the same magistrate, accused of using threatening language towards his niece, Joanna Fernandez, on March 22. He was unrepresented by lawyer.
The man by way of explanation told the magistrate that his niece and his eldest child had a confrontation. He said that he was only going to sort things out.Williams said that his niece’s boyfriend assaulted him with a cutlass, but he never threatened his niece.
However, Fernandez, who was present in court, said that her uncle was always in the habit of threatening her.
She said that on the day in question, her uncle came to her home and pulled out a “blade” and threatened to chop her.
She said she immediately went to the police station and made a report since it was not the first time that her uncle had threatened her.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail. He said that Williams must be warned to stay away from his niece.
Rather than sentence the man, the magistrate entered a not guilty plea and remanded Williams until April 19.
