The Fourth Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) will be officially opened here today at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.
The Meeting, which concludes tomorrow, will deal with matters pertinent to the institutional capacity development of CASSOS, as it pursues its objective to facilitate and promote the development and harmonization of civil aviation regulations, standards, practices and procedures.
The CASSOS Board of Directors will examine issues related to the reconstruction of the civil aviation system in Haiti following the January 12 earthquake. It will also seek to flesh out procedures for CASSOS/CARICOM representation at ICAO, and examine reports of Standing Committees of CASSOS, among other matters.
CASSOS was launched here on February 4, 2009, with the mandate to assist States Parties in meeting their obligations as contracting States to the Chicago Convention by achieving and maintaining full compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards and recommended practices.
