Two officials of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GL&SC) have reportedly been dismissed for wrongdoing as that agency move to strengthen its systems.
Kaieteur News understands that the officials, a male and a female, were technicians/surveyors at the Commission and were believed to have attempted to flout regulations regarding the granting of lands over a period of time.
In one case, it was said that illegal receipt books were used to collect rent and rates for lands which were being administered by the body.
Additionally, lands were given out illegally and rents and rates collected but never registered within the database of the system.
A well-placed source, close to the investigation, disclosed that a complex system was devised to include use of fraudulent documents.
“So there was some amount of forgery being done,” the official said.
A notice in yesterday’s edition of this newspaper by the Commission indicated that the two individuals are no longer employed and are not allowed to transact any business on behalf of the entity, which is responsible for land administration and surveying in Guyana. The Commission also has a mandate for the development and maintenance of land information systems across the country.
The GL&SC advised anyone with queries or needing clarification regarding transactions with its Region 4 Office to make contact with the Commission at their Hadfield Street offices.
