Pastor on carnal knowledge charge ‘lodges passport’

Pastor Shawn Maison, who heads a Mahaica, East Coast Demerara church and who is presently before the court on a carnal knowledge charge, has reportedly lodged his passport with the police after securing bail in the sum of $150,000.
Maison who went into hiding for about a month after the allegation surfaced, turned himself in to police in the company of Chairman of the Guyana Council of Churches , Bishop Juan Edghill, two weeks ago.
He was remanded to prison on his two previous court appearances.
However, he was subsequently granted bail by Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.
Maison is charged with carnally knowing a girl under the age of consent.
The girl, who is now 17 years old, had made the allegation last month following a row with the Pastor.
She had also disclosed that the man had been sexually molesting her since she was 13.
The Pastor had denied the allegations, telling this newspaper that it was an aunt of the girl who had put her up to make the allegations.
A source in the police East Coast Demerara Division informed this newspaper that the pastor lodged his passport yesterday and is to report to the police every Monday until the completion of the matter.
