– Dr. Parris-Aaron elected 1st Vice-President of CNA
Guyana’s national Under-16 netballers continued their fine run when they drew their second game against St. Kitts 29-29 as play in the Caribbean Netball Association (CNA) Regional Under-16 Championship continued, at the Netball Stadium in Barbados.
Scoring for Guyana were Goal Shooter Kristy Roberts, who netted 14 goals from 20 attempts and Goal Attack Shonette Estwick 15 from 21 attempts.
At the end of the first quarter Guyana trailed 5-9, rebounded in the second to lead 17-13 and maintained their advantage until the Kittians managed to level the scores and salvage a draw.
From all reports, it was another solid performance from the GT Babes as they are called due to their pint-sized physical appearance when compared to the other countries. Guyana next game will be tomorrow when they come up against Cayman Islands.
They then play Bermuda, St Kitts and Cayman Is on Thursday, Friday and Saturday respectively.
The tournament is being played on a two round format. The report added that the team is so determined to win the competition that they are staying focused on their goals and objectives and their discipline has so far been exemplary.
The Coaches are Lawrence Kellman and Randolph Critchlow with Tracy O’Neal as Manager.
Meanwhile, in a development that could serve as a boost for the sport in Guyana, President of the Guyana Netball Association Dr Maxine Aaron Parris was elected as First Vice President of the CNA at its AGM which was held during the staging of the tournament.
In the process, she defeated the incumbent and long serving 1st VP Mrs Gloria Ballantyne of St Vincent and the Grenadines and new comer Mrs. Patsy James Dragon of Grenada in a straight fight.
Ms Kathy Harper- Hall returns as President with Ms Debbie Francois and Ms Juliet Cumberbatch returning as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. They will serve for 2 terms.
