Two men were yesterday granted $250,000 bail each, when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
The men, Denzil Kistoo and Tito Gowen, are accused of attempting to murder Damian Trotman on December 23, 2009.
They both pleaded not guilty and were represented by attorney at law Mohamed Zafar. The lawyer in his bail application said that the two men are gainfully employed at the Luther’s Worthy Cause Pawn shop.
He said that the men were placed on $25,000 station bail and that they were reporting weekly to the police station.
Mohamed added that there was nothing prohibiting the court from granting bail to the accused.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail, since Trotman was not hospitalized. However the prosecutor asked the magistrate to set substantial bail. He explained that on the day in question the three men had a confrontation which resulted in Kistoo stabbing Trotman.
He said that a police patrol was summoned and Trotman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Mohamed interjected and told the court that Trotman was armed with a scissors and his clients took evasive actions to save their lives.
Bail was set at $250,000 and the two men are expected to make another court appearance on April 20.
