GLASGOW, BERBICE – Two weeks later and Rooplall Boodhoo, of Lot 1068 Glasgow New Housing Scheme is still on the run. The man is wanted for the murder of his reputed wife, 31-year old Lilowtee Seeram called ‘Pinky’ and for wounding his mother-in-law, Lata Inderdeo, 52.
A source close to the investigation said that searches are being conducted for the wanted man on a daily basis but to no avail so far. As recent as Saturday, detectives combed several sections of Glasgow.
Police also received information that the man was hiding out at a location at Montrose on the East Coast of Demerara but when teams turned up, there was no trace of him.
About 01:30 hours on March 27th, Lilowtee Seeram was severely chopped three times – to the back of her head, and on both arms. In the process, three fingers on her left hand were severed. Her mother, Lata Inderdeo, who was living with the couple, sustained chops to the right shoulder and the palm of her left hand. She has since been discharged from the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Moments after the wounds were inflicted, Lilowtee Seeram, a mother of two, died while receiving medical attention at the same facility.
Police recovered a cutlass similar to that used by cane harvesters but from all appearances that may not have been the murder weapon since there were no visible traces of blood.
Detectives from Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force are working on the theory that the incident may have stemmed from a quarrel between the couple.
During the fracas, the man dealt several chops to his reputed wife. It was at that point her mother, Lata Inderdeo, intervened and he chopped her as well, then attempted to trap her in the living room but was unsuccessful.
He then returned to the bedroom and continued to chop his reputed wife. During this time, Lata Inderdeo managed to open the front door, ran down the stairs and made her way to the gate. As she fumbled to open it, the suspect caught up with her and was about to complete the job but she pleaded with him not to do anything further. Boodhoo then escaped in the direction of the Providence cane field to the east.
Rooplall Boodhoo, a cane harvester by profession who works at the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s Providence cane field, is no stranger to the backlands.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force is appealing to persons with any information on the whereabouts of Rooplall Boodhoo to come forward. Persons can contact Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force on 333-2191, 333-2151-4 or 333-3876 or any police station.
