Demerara maul E’bo as Ogle-Thomas slams unbeaten 108

Republican lightweight boxer, Nankumar Singh, who thrilled residents of Timerhi in an action packed encounter against Romario Clarke (GDF) on Easter Monday last, was once again in the winners’ row when the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) launched the yearly Andrew Murray Novices Boxing Championships at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue Saturday evening last.

Singh was required to fight twice for the night and was successful in both bouts. In the first against newcomer Jim O’Selmo from the Port Kaituma Boxing Gym (PKBG), he virtually breezed along to take the decision from an obviously inferior boxer. O’Selmo spent most of the fight backing away from an aggressive Singh and at the end of the three rounds encounter, predictably lost the verdict.
One fight later, Delroy Amsterdam, another lightweight contender from the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) employed a two fisted attack that earned him a knockout verdict over Silton David (GDF). The time was 1:05secs of the second stanza. The win set up an encounter with Singh later on the card.
When the two fighters finally squared off in the final bout of the evening, Singh applied himself to the task with a superb display of variation where he peppered Amsterdam to the body and head. After getting a feel of Singh’s power Amsterdam wisely kept his distance for the rest of the round.
