So says Regional Chairman Holbert Knights
By Franklin Wilson
After weeks of unending planning, the annual Bartica Regatta which was held over a three-day period over the Easter Weekend was a resounding success, that’s the view of Regional Chairman, Reg. No. 7, Holbert Knights who also chaired the Regatta Committee.
Thousands of persons travelled to Bartica to witness the two-day Powerboat Racking, Canoe Sprints and Jet Ski competitions which were all highly successful according to Knights. Many of the races, especially the 225HP to unlimited events were exciting.
A number of other Sports activities also took place including the GT&T sponsored knock-out football competition, the river swim from Kaow Island to Bartica, the Run Bartica Run Athletic Road Race and a Domino competition.
The much looked forward to Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant which attracted nine Beauties, an all Bartica cast, was a major hit that was also well attended. The organisers received the full support of Corporate Guyana for all the events that were held including the wash down Street Jam that featured local acts Times Two and International Soca artist, Barbadian Peter Ram.
Knights noted that the crowd was more than they had anticipated especially on Sunday at the Powerboat racing held at the Golden Beach Circuit which also saw the Head of State, His Excellency Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo along with Ministers of Public Service Dr. Jennifer Westford and Tourism Maniram Prashad gracing the activity with their presence. Opposition MP Basil Williams also attended.
“We all had a good time and I think we are looking forward for another great time next year. As a committee we have already had a short debriefing meeting and have already decided the same format will obtain next year.”
Knights said he was impressed with the reaction to the wash down concert and they will be aiming to have more International Artistes perform next year.
He offered words of gratitude to all the non Barticians who were present for the activities.
For those who were not there, Knights said, “You are missing out on an experience of a lifetime.”
“Grab hold of some video footage, grab hold of someone who was here and let them tell you about their experience, let them tell you how wonderful this place is, how loving, caring and hospitable the people are. You have to put it on your calendar for next Easter and remember to book your rooms early.”
