Dear Editor,
I extend words of congratulations to Mr. Colin Bynoe on his recent election to the office of President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU).
Mr. Bynoe has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the noble profession and the children of Guyana. His desire to ensure that teachers are justly, rewarded and acknowledged in the society, is recognised in his prolonged actions, and efforts to advance the concerns of Guyanese teachers everywhere.
I believe that the members of the GTU have made the correct decision to elect Mr. Colin Bynoe as their President, especially at a time, when the union is perceived to be traversing in murky waters. Colin Bynoe, therefore, is capable of providing that steady and courageous leadership to ensure that the issues affecting the Guyanese teachers regain the attention of the administration.
Teachers continue to play a critical role in the development of our most valued resource, human capital, and therefore deserve to be treated and recognised for their important and invaluable contribution. This fact should not escape any of us.
I wish Mr. Bynoe, his executive and members of the GTU every success in the future. Let me close by saying, “it is not what you are against, but what you stand for”.
Lurlene Nestor
