Three year Guyana and WI bred race added
As the horseracing band wagon switches gear to Demerara for the Anjue and Hamlet Park grand One day meet, slated for Sunday April 18, it’s first for the year at their Mahaicony Branch Road facility, entries for the meeting close today. The authorities have also made some changes to their programme and have added the much anticipated Three year Guyana and West Indies bred event, which will replace the C class race.
The Anjue and Hamlet race track, which is the only one in Demerara, is also the only Grass track in the country.
Reports out of the club are that entries are filling up at a rapid pace and over 60 animals have already been entered for the meet.
Seven races are still carded for the day’s programme and close to $3M in prize money and other incentives are up for grabs.
Tongues are still wagging over the close and controversial finish at the last race meet in the Three year old event and with the hype and excitement created then, the authorities are taking no chances as they brace for the anticipated rematch and showdown between Zenyatta of the Jumbo Jet Stable and Peaceful and Celebration Time of the Elcock Stables.
The authorities are making every effort to have suitable and qualified judges in place as well as electronic equipment to help decided on the winners.
