WI to face Irish today
WEST INDIES beat Canada by 49 runs yesterday in the Jamaica in their 20/20 International although top batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul made just 10 and Ramnaresh Sarwan scored five.
Guyana’s Narsingh Deonarine top scored with 40 and got support from Andre Fletcher (32) as the Regional side made 130-7 off their allotted 20 overs.
The Albion left-handed batsman then returned to take 4-14 with his off-spin to help sink Canada for 81 off 19.2 overs.
Rizwan Cheema 3-19, Hiral Patel 2-11 and Umar Bhatti 2-28 never allowed the West Indies batsmen to put their foot on the gas but Deonarine and pacer Lionel Baker (2-9) ensured that the task remained out of the reach of the North Americans when they replied.
Meanwhile, Having been paired with the West Indies in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20, qualifiers Ireland will be using today’s Digicel-sponsored Jamaica Cricket Festival (JCF) clash with the Windies as a measuring rod to test their level of readiness for the spectacle.
Irish skipper, William Porterfield, is excited about the upcoming clash at the Trelawny Stadium today, which is the second match of a double-header, with Jamaica hosting Canada in the curtain raiser.
Porterfield is eying a possible upset and is looking forward to the opportunity to test Ireland’s readiness ahead of the April 30th -May 16th Twenty20 tournament which will be staged across the Caribbean.
The Irish played to a draw with Jamaica in a three-day contest a week ago, but were largely out-played throughout the contest.
The game got underway a day after the team touched down on the island and after over two months of inactivity.
