The Guyana National Stadium will be packed to the rafters for the first two days of ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010 action at that venue, with the West Indies team being a huge drawing card.
Only ‘Party Stand’ tickets are still on sale for both of those match days – Friday April 30th and Monday May 3rd – as all other categories of tickets are now officially sold out. Therefore the lone option for fans wanting to see the home side in the Group Stage is by quickly securing the remaining ‘Party Stand’ tickets at US$65 each, unless there are more returns (of stands tickets) from any ICC members or commercial partners. There were a few returns in recent weeks but those were all snapped up quickly, sometimes within hours of being released for public sale.
Cricket lovers from all over the Caribbean have been desperate to get tickets to the opening evening of the tournament, featuring an exciting double-header with Sri Lanka against New Zealand at 1 p.m. followed by the Chris Gayle-led ‘Windies’ versus Ireland at 5:00 pm. Three days later, Sri Lanka will oppose Zimbabwe and then, at 1:30pm, the West Indies and England will be “bringing it” at the Providence stadium.
“We can’t get enough tickets to sell for these two days. It’s just the ‘Party Stand’ left and even those tickets are now going quicker as fans realise it’s their only chance to get inside the stadium. We’ve been inundated with calls and enquiries both at the Ticket Centre in Guyana and here at WT20 headquarters in Saint Lucia,” noted ICC WT20 WI 2010 Tournament Director, Mr. Robert Bryan.
“I was in Guyana over the past few days and fans there can’t wait for this event to start. The atmosphere and anticipation is amazing.”
Sandwiched in between the Guyana match days are two days of double-headers in Saint Lucia at Beausejour Cricket Ground where there are also likely to be some Twenty20 fireworks, especially come Sunday May 2.
Play starts with South Africa versus India at 9:30am and patrons will hardly have time to catch their breaths before defending men’s champion Pakistan take on Australia at 1:30pm.
On the eve of these matches, on Saturday May 1, international cricket will witness history as Afghanistan makes its debut in a top-level tournament, challenging India at 9:30am.
Tickets for ICC WT20 WI 2010 matches are on sale from Ticket Centres in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago and online at www.iccevents.yahoo.com. There is also an international call centre: +44 207 998 3125 (UK number).
Persons who bought tickets between November 1, 2009, and February 28, 2010, can collect them now from the relevant Ticket Centre or will receive them via courier, if the latter was indicated as their preferred option.
