A man who cuffed a plainclothes policeman in the face, was on Thursday placed on $20,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
The allegation was that Lloyd Roberts assaulted police constable Michael Abrams on April 6. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Roberts told the court that he and Abrams were passengers in a bus when it was stopped by the police.
The man said that he was coming out of the bus when he accidentally “jammed” Abrams who became annoyed.
Roberts claimed that Abrams pushed him and he did the same in self defense. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail.
He supported the report that both parties were in the same bus when it was stopped by police.
The policeman who stopped the bus discovered that the driver was unlicensed.
Telford said that Roberts then began to hurl remarks at the uniformed policeman. Abrams, who was in plainclothes, interjected and cautioned Roberts that he should conduct himself better.
The prosecutor said the he became annoyed and cuffed Abrams in the face.
He was given bail in the sum of $20,000 and the matter was transferred to Court Two for April 14.
