After a hiatus of more than a year from the boxing ring former local middleweight champion, ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton is scheduled to resume his career against Hector ‘Machito’ Camacho (jnr) at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, USA, on Friday May 7 next. The two fighters are scheduled to box for twelve rounds for the IBF Inter-Continental middleweight title.
The bout was arranged by United States of America based matchmaker/promoter, Ceon Bristol and Dalton received his copy of the contract yesterday afternoon. He is scheduled to sign and return the document to the promoters in the USA.
Camacho Jr is the son of former world champion, Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho, a fighter that had made quite a name for himself on the international boxing scene. The younger Camacho fights as a super middleweight and sports a professional record of 49 wins with
3 losses and one draw. He has knocked out 27 of his opponents.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Camacho fights in a southpaw stance and at 5 feet, 8 inches enjoys the height advantage over Dalton.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur Sport caught up with Dalton yesterday afternoon, moments after he had wrapped up training sessions at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis gym, Albouystown. He said that he was elated to be back in the gym and is working strenuously to whip himself into the required shape. Dalton admits that he knows nothing about Camacho but promises that by fight night he will be prepared for anything.
The former middleweight champion explained that he has upped his training regiment and sessions commence from around 04:00hrs until around 06:00hrs. He said that activities include fitness work, sprints and periodic sessions of long distance runs. “I am working hard for this victory and nothing will deny me,” a confident Dalton exhorted. His trainer is Lennox Daniels while world rated bantamweight, Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore will accompany him as an inspirational force as well as to provide light gloves work.
