Dear Editor,
The Government is seeking to size the assets of the three convicted Guyanese drugs traffickers, Bernard Clarke, Ian Jones and Lisa Bennett, who are all facing drug trafficking charges in the United Kingdom under the anti-money laundering law according to Attorney-General Mr. Charles Ramson in the newspaper of Monday, 5th April, 2010.
It’s very good to note that the Government is finally doing something to take drugs off our streets which leads to guns, robberies crimes and senseless killings and most of all destroy the lives of so many of our young, while it enriches others.
It is not too late to stop the drugs cartels and get them off the streets, but if anyone is to consider the PPP/C Government’s action seriously, they will stop, think and ask themselves the following questions on this anti-money laundering law that have been in existence for over 35 years which was passed under the PNC regime.
1. Where was this anti-money laundering law, when Roger Khan, former race car driver Peter Morgan and another businessman David Narine, all of whom were convicted of drug trafficking and serious criminal offences in the US and got prison terms?
2. Why Roger Khan and his associates’ assets have not been seized under this anti-money laundering law?
3. Why move to the court in the case of only three Guyanese who are facing drug trafficking charges in the United Kingdom and not others like David Narine?
4. Why the US biggest convicted Guyanese drug lord Roger Khan’s assets have not been sized as yet?
There has been no action by the Guyana Police Force to use evidence of Guyanese drug dealer Roger Khan trial from the USA to seize his assets after he was arrested in Trinidad and shipped by agents of the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to the USA in 2005 for allegedly masterminding the shipment of illegal drugs to that country.
Is it safe to say that this anti-money laundering law only applies to one class of people in our society?
It is my firm belief that this anti-money laundering law is very good and should apply to everyone, if the Government is so serious about taking drugs off on our streets and save the next generation from drugs.
