Dear Editor,
It is with a clear conscience and without any reservations that mention must be made about the apparent madness that currently consumes the operations of the Guyana Power & Light (GPL).
The disruptions in the supply on a reliable basis of electricity is most unsatisfactory and a source of vexatious lament.
The Government is abused for this annoying deficiency, but in fact the real culprit must be the management of GPL, who are in charge of honouring the commitment of providing an acceptable service.
The publications of the meaningless schedule of outages on the spurious excuses of maintenance just do not make any sense. Just what exactly is the maintenance on a never-ending prolonged period?
Despite these constant advertised outages, there are also the absurd unscheduled blackouts or outages, most times for a period of over a few hours. This is really madness and incompetence to the limit.
What has happened to the great promises made when two brand new Wartsila plants were installed and ceremoniously commissioned just before December last year. Consumers are demanding to know the truth of this unacceptable situation. They are fed up of being constantly misled into believing that interruption. The excuse of maintenance works is really laughable. The plea is for the truth be given, the official hounding down of consumers to pay their bills is seriously overbearing. GPL is just not providing an acceptable service.
Will there ever be an intelligent response to this madness? The mammoth amount of monies that the Government has been pouring into the coffers of GPL is yet another potential scandal waiting to be thoroughly investigated.
