Annece Hicks can wow the toughest of crowds with her melodious voice. Sunday evening she wowed a crowd with not only her voice, but also her intelligence, beauty and charm. For that she was crowned Miss Bartica Regatta 2010.
Annece outshone eight other contestants as she walked away with the coveted title. Her runners-up were Patrice Wilson, first runner-up; Tiffany Wong, second runner-up; and Jessica Mc Kenzie, third runner-up.
Despite the slight delay in the start of the pageant the contestants did not fail to entertain the large crowd which gathered at the Modern square.
To get the nights event started the nine contestants were introduced to the audience and judges by the night’s Master of Ceremonies, Merano Isaacs.
The contestants, Patrice Wilson, Lydia Timmerman, Rafeena Sattaur, Nickesha Fraser, Tiffany Wong, Abiola Allen, Nicketia Henry, Jessica Mc Kenzie and Annece Hicks made their grand appearance, then did their opening dance to the World Cup version of the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ sung by Shakira.
During the song and dance each delegate introduced herself to the audience and promised a night of fun and excitement.
Immediately after the opening dance the delegates were each given the opportunity to showcase their talent. Most of the delegates did dramatic pieces based on their platform choice. Two of them performed interpretive dances.
One of delegates, Abiola Allen thrilled the crowd with a belly dance but Annece Hicks got a standing ovation for her song. That was just one of the many highpoints of the night’s activities.
A short musical break then it was time for the swimwear segment. Each delegate took turns to strut their stuff on the stage which depicted Guyana flora and fauna and the majestic Kaieteur Falls.
For that segment, Ms. Spotlight Production, Patrice Wilson, walked away with the Miss Body Beautiful prize. This segment was followed by a group dance and then it was time for the evening gown segment.
This segment was seemingly enjoyed by the audience. The gowns were out of the ordinary to trendy. Delegates number five, Tiffany Wong, who was sponsored by J’Ouvert walked away with the Best Gown prize.
As the night wore on the delegates were each given three minutes to briefly discuss their platform. Part of this segment was held prior to Sunday night’s pageant and Ms. Annece Hicks, who was sponsored by Atkinson Trading, won the Best Essay which was written and read by her. Her platform was “Women in pageantry in Bartica”.
A brief musical interlude gave the judges, Elton Washington, Cecila Joseph, Andrew Hopkinson and Cheryl ample time to tally their score to select the final four contestants.
After much anticipation the final four were announced — Patrice Wilson, Tiffany Wong, Jessica Mc Kenzie and Annece Hicks. They then had to face an intelligence segment.
With a little twist to the other pageants, each final four contestant was allowed to select a judge who would ask her the final question.
Based on the crowd’s response the final four delegates did not fail to deliver in the intelligence segment. Once this was completed the queen and her runners-up were announced.
The crown was then passed to Annece Hicks the news queen by the former queen, Savannah’re Wyatt, who took her final walk as Miss Bartica Regatta 2009.
An overwhelmed Annece Hick, who is no stranger to crowd humbly accepted the title, flanked by her runners-up and family.
Miss Congeniality went to first runner-up Patrice Wilson, while the Miss Photogenic prize went to Nickesha Fraser. The queen also copped the Miss Best Talent prize.
