Five-time West Indies Fullbore rifle shooting champion Ransford Goodluck continued his climb back to top form when he secured his second win in as many weeks at Sunday’s Spoon shoot held at the Timehri rifle ranges.
Goodluck who won last week’s Recorded Shoot was bang on target at Sunday’s Spoon shoot dropping just one point for the entire day and recording two possibles in scoring 104 points with 13 V-bulls out of a highest possible score (HPS) of 105:21Vs.
He shot a possible 35 points with 4 Vs at 300 yards and another possible of 35:5 at the 500 yards range before securing 34 points with 4Vs at the 1000 yards range.
Fullbore captain Mahendra Persaud who won the opening shoot of the season three weeks ago finished in second position with 100 points and 10 Vs. The three-time regional champion struggled at 300 yards with 31 points and 2Vs but recorded a possible of 35:4 at 500 yards and 34:4 at 1000 yards.
Inspector Dane Blair was third with 95 points and 7 Vs followed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe 94:3 and Lt. Col. Terry Stuart 92:4.
The other recorded scorers were Ryan Sampson 90:4, Peter Persaud 89:6 and Everad Nelson 89:4.
These recorded shoots form part of Guyana’s preparation for the upcoming West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships to be held at the Paragon Rifle Ranges in Barbados from May 23-31.
Guyana is presently the defending Champions for both the Short Range Formerly known as the BWIA Cup and long Range (Milex) Trophies.
In Barbados, Guyana will be seeking to make it an unprecedented four in a row, for the Short range Title having won it for the last three years – 2007 in Guyana, 2008 in Jamaica and 2009 in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Local shooters will be attempting to win the Short Range Title in Barbados, a feat they have not achieved in a very long time.
Meanwhile, Captain Persaud said that the National Championships will take place during the last weekend of this month at the Timehri ranges. He said however, greater emphasis would be placed on the Recorded shoot until the team departs for Barbados.
