More than 6,000 persons around the world, including from Guyana, took part last week in the online forum to find answers to some of the global problems.
According to Dr. Rajiv Shah, Administrator of the United States Agency For International Development (USAID) which has been pushing the Global Pulse 2010 initiative, 155 countries posted 9,000 ideas, reactions, opinions, and perspectives.
“We will be analysing these conversations over the next several weeks to extract key themes and actionable ideas. This content will provide valuable input as we shape and assess the strategic direction of our foreign affairs agencies, their programmes, and future engagement with stakeholders,” Shah said in a statement yesterday.
The posting and comments will all be available until at least the end of April to every person and organisation that is interested in gaining insight from it, the official said.
Almost 60 percent of participants were from outside the U.S with 51 percent of participants being women. Almost half of the participants were under 35 years old.
The US Government had launched the ambitious virtual project more than a week ago to discuss key issues like women and girls to education to climate change to health issues.
The three-day event, according to Mission Director of the USAID, Carol Horning, is backed by the administration of US President Barack Obama.
Using Facebook, Twitter and other websites, loggers were able to see, hear and read comments and suggestions to some of the globe’s most pressing problems.
“Created to enable listening, learning and sharing of ideas, this initiative marks the commitment of the US to meeting the challenges of the 21st century by working toward universal goals in partnership with a wide variety of stakeholders,” a statement from the USAID had said of the Global Pulse 2010.
