Some of the country’s top amateur boxers would showcase their wares when executives of the Timerhi Warriors Boxing Gym (TWBG) in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) stages a 12 bout boxing card in commemoration of the Easter celebrations at the Timerhi Red Ground, today.
Boxers from several city gyms will be matched against those from the TWBG gym to provide entertainment for the boxing starved residents of Timerhi.
The gyms listed to participate in the event are the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Harpy Eagles, Republicans and the Forgotten Youth Foundation.
Coach of the TWBG, Owen Holligan said that the boxing card is the first of a set of collaborative activities with GABA to provide competition for the boxers in his community.
He said that three of his charges will be on show including middleweight, Ron Smith, lightweight Chelwyn Semple and super/flyweight, Donald Trapp.
These boxers would join others from Georgetown for the weigh in ceremony this morning in Timerhi. Subsequent to the bouts at 17:00hrs, several teams drawn from Georgetown and Timerhi would battle for honours in a domino tournament that gets underway at 11:00hrs.
