As is customary, the National Parks Commission will be charging a nominal fee for vehicles (buses, cars and motor-cycles) being taken into the Botanical Gardens and the National Park on Easter Monday, April 5. Patrons of the parks will be issued with free trash bags upon entry and are asked to utilize them since there will be periodic collection during the day to ease the clean-up burden on the following day.
According to a press release, the funds collected will be used to offset the expenses incurred in cleaning the parks after the day of picnicking, kite-flying and all the other activities engaged in on that day.
The NPC noted that it is a common occurrence to see the debris-littered fields and streets after every major outdoor activity, but patrons of the parks should have a care for the well being of the environment and be considerate in their choice of picnic wares. “Use recyclable plastic containers to carry food and drinks that can be taken home at the end of the day, washed and reused. Sturdy plastic cups can replace the disposable plastic ones and styrofoam dishes should be avoided at all costs. Patrons should also carry trash bags of their own and not depend on the park to give them one.
Entry to the Botanical Gardens will be the Western Main Gate on Vlissengen Road and the exit will be through the Eastern gate on Sheriff Street. Entry for the National Park will be through the Carifesta Avenue gate and exit through the Albert Street gate.
At Joe Vieira Park, patrons will not be required to pay an entry fee during the hours of 06:00 and 18:00 hrs but vending of beverages is prohibited except by duly authorized resellers at the location.
