The 2010 Spready’s Bakery Under-19, Berbice 50-over Cricket Competition got started over last weekend with several first-round matches.
Mark Lionel slammed 104 (7 fours and 1 six) to steer Scottsburg United to 194 for 7 in their allotted 43 Overs against Kim Jung IL also of Corriverton. He came back with his left arm spin to take 6 for 9 from 5 Overs to help rout Kim Jung IL for a paltry 69 in reply.
Former Guyana Under-15 cricketer, Clinton Pestano hit 105 (6 fours) which together with 65 not out from former Berbice Under-15 player Loydel Lewis helped Rose Hall Town Pepsi A post 265 for 4 in their 50 Overs against the B side which was then bowled out for 65 in response with Lewis picking up 3 wickets.
Other bowlers with 6 wickets hauls were left arm spinner Karamchand of Kennard’s Memorial and offspinner Tankrishna Singh of Crabwood Creek both in winning efforts.
No. 47 Pioneer’s 305 all out in 35 Overs against No. 43 scorpion were due mainly to Khemraj Homraj (70), Devendra Saywack (64) and Satrohan Singh (57). Homraj then came back with his medium pacers and took 5 for 31 from 6 Overs and Saywack took 2 for 24 to help restrict No. 43 Scorpion.
Other good allround performances came from Videsh Lall of Kennard’s Memorial (94 and 2 for 23) Daylon Edwards of West Canje (82 and 2 for 40), Nehru Gopaul of Young Star of No. 70 (55 and 5 for 30), former Berbice Under-15 allrounder Kevin Ramdeen of Rose Hall Community Centre (68 and 2 for 4), former Guyana Under-15 captain Harrinarine Chattergoon of Albion Community Centre (53 and 2 for 0), Dwight Crawford and Melroy Williams both of Gibraltar/Courtland (54 and 3 for 24 and 56 and 3 for 36 respectively) and Moonesh Lalu of Yakusari Young Caribs (55 and 3 for 34).
Kelvin Leitch of Tucber Park and Kenroy James of Whim National were the other batsmen to score half centuries while there were also 5 wicket hauls for Linden Austin of Young Warriors and Sean Persaud of Little Hulk of no. 64.
