De Nobrega finally wins junior division
Alonzo Greaves continued where he left off from Saturday at the National Park when he stormed to victory in the 3rd edition of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial 50-mile Road Race on the Essequibo Coast on Sunday last.
Greaves also won the first of three races in memory of the Late President Jagan in Berbice on March 7, 2010, Raymond ‘Steely’ Newton taking the 2nd race in indomitable style on Sunday March 21.
Greaves’ winning time was 2 hours 11 minutes 36 seconds and he crossed the line ahead of Robin Persaud who was followed by Albert ‘Bertie’ Philander, Christopher Persaud, Daniel Ramchurejee and Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams.
Philander, won 4 of the eight prime prizes with Ramchaurjee and Williams sharing the remainder equally.
Paul De Nobrega finally broke the jinx of being second best when he won the junior category, Kurt La Rose took the second spot with Regan Gibbons taking third.
Linden Blackman also returned to winnings ways with victory in the veteran’s category, Kennard Lovell was 2nd with Virgil Jones 3rd.
The over-60 category went to Monty Parris ahead of Anthony Fariah. Mario King was the top upright out pedaling Davanand Bissoon and Kwesi Headley in that order.
