First Guyanese club to participate in the CFU Championship Sep/Oct 1971

As Alpha ‘the Hammer’ prepare to contest once again the first phase of the Caribbean Football Union club championship, the first time Guyana was represented at this level was (September 30) 1977 by Thomas United Football Club.
The Ken Gibbs led United line up lost 3 goals to one against Transvaal FC of Suriname at the National Stadium in Paramaribo. Thomas United goal scorer was striker Michael Pierre. In the returned fixture at GCC ground on October 5, Transvaal FC thrashed United by three goals to nil eliminating the Guyanese top club in the first round.

Earl O’Neal
Michael Pierre
Gordon Moneyman Forde (deceased), Lloyd King, Winston Grant (goalkeeper), Desmond Morgan, Frankie Joseph, Cossar Neblett, Wilfred Daniels, Starry Hodge.
Reserves: Parris, Hing, Prescott, Garrell.
The Referee for the first leg match in Suriname was Trinidadian Dotty Henderson, while Curacao T. Koestsier carried the whistle in the return fixture in Georgetown.
The Transvaal starting eleven was: Barron, Oehliers, Gesser, Sordam, Northam, Singh, Bundel, Vannen Bury, Vriedwyk, Schaal, Costillino.
Reserves: Walker, Klein, Boshman.
Although it is 39 years later lets salute our trail blazers.
