Chanderpaul, Deonarine among those to participate at Providence
Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Analyst Robin Singh yesterday informed that the GCB in collaboration with the Management of the Guyana National Stadium will begin a long term high-performance programme for the elite senior cricketers from today at Providence.
Singh explained that the ‘Elite Commitment’ programme will be held from Monday to Friday every week until the T/20 Cricket World Cup. It is then scheduled to continue just after T/20 tournament at the Stadium and all National cricketers have been invited to participate.
Singh said the programme is intended to hone all areas of the player’s game; batting, bowling, fielding and mental toughness and stressed that everyone working or attending this programme will be demonstrating their personal commitment to cricket.
The GCB will provide balls and high-performance analysts while Tony Xavier, Manager of the Guyana National Stadium has generously provided the venue and the time of his staff.
Singh disclosed that National Coach and former Guyana batsman Ravindra Seeram has committed to everyday participation.
“The players attending will be expected to provide their own transportation and refreshment in a demonstration of their own commitment to the game,” Singh said.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Assad Fudadin, Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Trevon Garraway, Lennox Cush, Said Drepaul, Rayon Griffith, Gajanand Singh, Ryan Ramdass, Leon Johnson, and Vishaul Singh have already confirmed their participation.
Other Guyana cricketers are expected to join the programme upon their return from overseas contracts and additional coaching assistance will be provided by GCB’s Cricket Development Officer and former Test pacer Reon King, Demerara Coach Orin Bailey and Chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board selection panel and former Test off-spinner Clyde Butts.
