The Horseracing band wagon switches to Demerara when the Anjue and Hamlet race track situated at Branch Road Mahaicony on the East Coast Demerara stages its first race meet for the year. The action is slated for Sunday April 18.
There are seven races listed on the day’s card with close to $3M in prizes money up for grabs. There are a number of top-notch races listed, the C & Lower event with a winning take of $400,000 over a distance of 1200M, being the top billing.
The E and lower 1200M sprint is another top of the line race on the day’s programme and has prize money of $260,000 on offer.
The three year old race is for horses bred in Guyana and will see the animals going at each other over 1600M for the first prize of $200,000. The G class open event has purse of $160,000 for the 1200M race. The ‘I’ class event has a winners money of $140,000 and will be a 1200M affair.
Other races on the day are for I three and lower horses also over 1200M with a $120,000 purse. The division two and three event also covers 1200M with the winner slated to take home $100,000.
Reports out of Mahaicony is that a lot of improve have being done to the facilities, bringing it on par with the others in the country. The track which is a grass track is the only one in the country and has been upgraded recently.
Persons interested in having their horses participate in the days proceedings are asked to get in touch with Mr. Amernauth Kirtipaul on Telephone numbers 623-1009 or 624-9104 or at the Arjune and Hamlet race track at Mahaicony Branch road.
Horse owners are also reminded to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as those horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the days proceedings. Race time is 13:00hrs.
