As the countdown to what is anticipated to be the biggest ever Bartica, Easter Regatta Powerboat Racing Championships, USA based Veteran Stephen Belle is eyeing domination of the unlimited division.
Belle, who has come from a family with a Great Heritage in the sport, started to compete at the age of 25 and has never looked back since, stating that the sport run in his blood.
After suffering injuries from two serious accidents, Stephen was away from the sport for a number of years but made a welcome return last year where he copped the top podium spot in the most exciting race of the two-day meet piloting Tatianna in the unlimited category.
He also took a 2nd and 3rd place and according to him, “There is no turning back from here on in.”
Like his brother Clarence, Steven said he has won dozens of trophies over the years he’s been competing and has also won six (6) consecutive championships during his prolonged career.
“I have done well and will continue to do so since I always aim to be the best.”
Stephen is expected to unveil his boat (Tatianna) today as he heightens preparations ahead of competition set for April 4 & 5, Easter Sunday and Monday at Golden Beach, Third Avenue, Bartica.
Stephen’s businesses, Zen’s Caribbean Flavour Restaurant and Zen’s Plaza Hotel of Second Avenue Bartica will be sponsoring him this year; he was sponsored by Carib last year. He believes that his chances of beating the opposition are very good again.
His son, 20-year-old Conan, also based in the USA will be competing for the second year after being introduced to the sport last year. Conan will be campaigning in the 75 – 90hp category and his dad is of the view that he {Conan}will be unmatchable this year.
“He will be racing again this year and I expect him to do wonders since the kind of artillery he will be equipping himself with, no one will be able to match him.”
All the competitors have been digging deep into their pockets to get their engines and boats in tip top shape for the competition and fans, supporters and the general public can look forward to some enthralling and nerve wrenching races.
Competition will get started at 10:00hrs on Easter Sunday and 11:00hrs on Easter Monday.
