A fine century by Chandreka Ragnauth and six wicket hauls by Somnauth Prashad and Wazir Khan highlighted the fourth round of matches in the Igloo Ice cream 40 overs cricket competition played last Sunday in Wakenaam.
At Maria’s Pleasure, Good Success overcame the host by 200 runs.
The visitors batted first and lost two quick wickets before Ragnauth who blasted 116 (8×6, 13×4), Imran Khan 49 (4×4, 3×6), Nazeer Mohamed 35 (4×4) and Dinnauth Doodnauth 20 (1×4, 2×6) batted positively as their team posted 297 all out in 37 overs in front of a large and colourful crowd. Bahadur Bissoon grabbed 4-78 while left arm spinner Marsh Singh took 2-46, and Ryan Gordon 2-67.
Maria’s Pleasure in reply could only muster 97 in 17 overs. Kennard Lewis top scored with 31 as medium pacer Wazir Khan bagged 6-22 and Essequibo offspinner Nazeer Mohamed 3-7 for the winners. At Zeelandia, the home team went down to Sans Souci Jaguars by 46 runs. The Jaguars took first strike and scored 237 all out in 35 overs. Skipper Charles Benjamin led with 77 (9×4, 4×6) while Nokta Moses, a former Essequibo U-15 player, contributed 32 and Somnauth Prashad 30. Nandcoomar Boodram took 4-35 and Navishaul Pooran 3-44. Zeelandia in reply were going nicely at 125 – 1 but were eventually bowled out for 191 in 26 overs. Pooran was their leading run scorer with 63 (7×4, 5×6) while Dwarkanauth Jadukul made 36 and Boodram 32. Prashad snatched 6-27 and left arm spinner Moin Khan 2-45.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre ground, the umpires awarded the game to Sans Souci after Noitgedacht refused to continue the match. Earlier Noitgedacht made 156 all out in 32 overs after a late start caused the overs to be reduced to 36. Carva Hinds top scored with 44 and Nigel Coggins made 22 as Oyono Sampson, Vickram Ramnarine and Gurnauth Khemraj picked up three wickets each for Sans Souci who were 10-1 in 4 overs when the game was brought into dispute.
Noitgedacht claimed that they were not informed that Sans Souci fielded with a substitute for most part of their innings and only realised this when the player for whom the substitute was on for, went out to bat.
When contacted on this issue the umpires stated that they informed the captain of the Noitgedacht team about the substitute.
Meanwhile chairman of the Noitgedacht sports club Trevor Stewart told Kaieteur Sport that he will lodge a protest with the Wakenaam Cricket Committee. This matter is presently being handled by the competition committee.
The competition continues tomorrow with Sans Souci and Sans Souci Jaguars doing battle at Zeelandia while Maria’s Pleasure will host Noitgedacht and Good Success will be at home to Zeelandia.
