Yesterday, ranks of the Joint Services swooped down on the Stabroek Market area where they conducted a massive cordon and search exercise.
The entire area was cordoned off by ranks from the Guyana Police Force as well as ranks from the Guyana Defence Force as searches were conducted on some vendors and their stalls.
The army’s Bell 206 helicopter was also in full operation during yesterday’s exercise as it was seen circling the area.
The exercise caused some frustration among people who were hurrying to get home as most of the minibus parks were blocked off.
This raid is the third for the week. Early yesterday morning a similar exercise was conducted in the Leopold, Smyth and D’Urban Streets area. A similar exercise was held on Wednesday in the East Ruimveldt area.
During that raid several youths from that area were arrested. Up to press time it was not clear if any arrest was made during yesterday’s raid.
