Approximately five months after returning to the United States of America Lennox Allen enters the ring tonight against Puerto Rican Amador Aceveda at the Mid Hudson Civic Centre, Poughkeepsie, New York in a middleweight scrap.
Allen sports an impeccable record of 10 fights without a loss while Acevedo has won three of his ten fights, losing six while the other ended in a draw.
There was no immediate details available pertaining to Acevedo’s boxing prowess but reports are that the Puerto Rican managed to tip the scale at the contractual weight limit. Allen also made the stipulated weight limit and the local pugilist is exuding confidence ahead of the bout.
Speaking with this reporter moments after concluding his early morning workout Thursday morning last, the lanky Guyanese fighter disclosed that he is well prepared for the fight. Allen said that he arrived in the USA some six months ago and was ready to get into battle. He said that his progress was stymied by impending immigration matters that precluded him from entering into any contractual arrangement.
The lanky fighter assured that those issues are now history and he is ready to resume his career.
Allen said that he is conducting training sessions at the Trinity Boxing Gym, Manhattan under the expert tutelage of Colin Morgan. The aspiring world champion also disclosed that his training regiment has been very intense and he is entering tonight’s clash in the best shape of his life.
“I was engaged in rigid sessions but could not fight until certain immigration matters were attended to so naturally my activities were restricted.”
Allen said that he has since heightened activities in the gym as well as during roadwork sessions in the mornings.
Allen intimated that he has completed more than one hundred rounds of sparring, skipping as well as punching the heavy bag and speedball. “I am ready for this bout and am not even contemplating a loss,” he said.
He further assured that now that the troublesome immigration matters are concluded he will now be able to actively resume his career. (Michael Benjamin)
