National U-15 cricketers wing out for T&T
The National youth team which was scheduled to depart Guyana this morning for Trinidad for this year’s Regional under-15 cricket tournament were guests at a farewell dinner held for them by the Guyana Cricket Board at the Water Chris Hotel last night.
Led by Shawn Perreira and coached by Adrian Amsterdam, the Guyana team battle the Windwards in their opening match on Monday and Manager Elroy Stephney was confident that his young charges will do well.
Public Relations Officer of the GCB Terry Holder told the youngsters, aiming to give Guyana their third title at this level and first since back-to-back wins in 1998 and 1999, that it was an honour to represent their countr5y and promised that they would be well rewarded if they returned home with the trophy.
Acting President of the GCB Fizul Bacchus, who is also a national youth selector, told the youths that he expects them to do well since they were the best bunch of under-15 cricketers in the country.
Also speaking at the official send-off for the players was former National under-19 off-spinner and International Radio cricket broadcaster Sean Devers who told the team to have fun playing the game they love but not to forget that the reason for them being in Trinidad was to represent their country in Cricket. He also emphasized the importance of them playing as a team. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Frank Anthony was unavoidable absent due to another sporting engagement.
