A fine unbeaten century by Christopher Blucher guided North Essequibo to a 9 wicket victory over Central Essequibo as the Goodwood U-19 50 overs cricket competition continued recently in Essequibo.
In Zone A, at Lima, Central won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 161 all out in 39 overs. Ravindra Mohabir made 37 and Alcindo Alves contributed 23 as Grenville Badrinauth and Mark Tyrell took three wickets each. North then responded with 166-1 in 30 overs. Blucher led with an even century which contained eight fours and three sixes while Keron Sewnarine assisted with 28.
In Zone B: At Parika Salem ground on the East Bank of Essequibo, Wakenaam overcame the host by 55 runs. Seon Venture 64 (4×6, 3×6) former national U-15 player Neal Ramalho 34, national U-15 vice captain Ricardo Adams 30, former Essequibo U-15 batsman Zameer Zaman 21 and Ahmad Khan 17 were the principal scores as Wakenaam managed 209 all out in 34 overs. Jimol Marks with 4-37, Deon Doodnauth 2-23 and Ashim Mohamed 2-15 were the main wicket takers for the host.
East Bank Essequibo in reply were bowled out for 154 in 31 overs. Kevon Boodie topscored with 73 (7×4, 3×6), as off spinner Nokta Moses grabbed 4-21 while Adams bagged 2-25 and venture 2-22 for the winners.
Meanwhile in other matches, Bartica got the better of Leguan and Wakenaam by 34 and 53 runs respectively which East Bank defeated Bartica by 7 wickets.
Scores: At Greens Park in Leguan. Bartica 160 all out in 36 overs (Kevin Federicks 52, Kellon Tracy 38, Tulsieram Premnauth 3-25, Paul Williams 2-24, Ganesh Etwaroo 2-24). Leguan 126 all out in 34 overs. (Saif Jairaj 35, Haseeb Khan 21, Sean Garraway 4-30, Hamid Ahmad 2-25).
At Wakenaam Community Centre Ground, Bartica scored 139 all out in 32 overs. (Kevin Federicks 44, Anil Looknauth 26, Ahmad Khan 3-28, Seon Venture 2-26, Derwin Daniels 2-14).
Wakenaam 86 all out 22 overs (A. Khan 17, Tamesh Charritar 10, Othniel Binnette 4-15, Dwayne Singh 3-19, Kevin Federicks 2-29. At Parika: Bartica 116 all out in 35 overs (Kevin Federicks 37 n.o, Sean Garraway 15, Quincy Jones 4-34, Ashim Mohamed 3-12, Revon Boodee 2-13).
East Bank E’bo 117-3 in 16 overs (Kevon Boodee 44, Q. Jones 19).
Central Essequibo will now play Pomeroon and East Bank Essequibo will take on Leguan in the final preliminary round matches. The top two teams from each zone will clash in the final.
