Dear Editor,
You know what they say? Any other is definitely ‘Mack’! The spin doctor has given up his neutrality and objectivity to become a cheerleader for the Government.
So, they say that National election is on its way, and I am certain that Prem would love to nitpick on a few non-supporters of the PPP/C, as per norm. However, this time it will be a bit different, it’s time we turn the tables on the ‘spin doctor’.
Onward, upward he brags about Guyana’s economic indicators, JIA, and LCDs. Yes, Guyana’s Press is allegedly free, as he always brags, and believe me, there is nothing wrong to talk about these topics, but when the propaganda starts to consume the content of these topics, then it becomes a problem.
To be truthful is one thing, but to overemphasize and over exaggerate is another thing. Based on his press releases, whether it be in writing or it be televised, seems to be constructed in such a way as to ass kiss the President; and the sensible people of Guyana are tired of his constant repetition.
Maybe, he is too old for the system, and lacks the ability to fit his writings into this present time? Or maybe that’s just a thought! I was sitting on the chair thinking about politics today, and politics yesterday, and it occurred to me that these pen pushers of the Office of the President are just talkers and not walkers.
Many of them just regurgitate what they read for fame and a false sense of power, and those that were actually at work go unrecognised. It is certainly a shame that the few pen pushers actually have no real input in Guyana’s development, because all they’re full of is talk.
You see many of us in Guyana lack the ability to create a framework in which to check if the information given by these propagandists is true. Guyanese who lack critical faculty include those in the lower income bracket or educational level, as they would have considerably limited sources of information to refer to, and this is what the pen pushers exploit.
We need to learn how to immunize ourselves against propaganda. People often think of totalitarian governments when they hear the word “propaganda,” but democracies use propaganda too. What is the difference between the two? Totalitarian governments bludgeon the public with a message while democracies are subtler about it.
People are easily manipulated into believing different things are in their best interests. I urge all Guyanese to be on the look out for these manipulators.
So, they say that Prem Misir is also the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana? Then he should try very hard to do some real work in the education department of the University of Guyana, and then maybe he can make some real input in the developmental process of Guyana; and desist from this entire political hullabaloo.
