Additional charges were yesterday instituted against the Guyana Revenue Authority cashier who allegedly stole over $600,000 from a city wharf last year.
Tamayo De Mendonca, 29, of 1659 Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt Park, pleaded not guilty to two counts of simple larceny while being employed as clerk or servant at GRA, when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It was alleged that between December 1 and December 8, 2009, De Mendonca stole $258,380 from the Guyana Revenue Authority. It was further alleged that the accused stole $440,286 between November 6 and November 30, 2009.
De Mendonca was represented by attorney at law Sasha Roberts in association with Adrian Thompson.
Ms Roberts in her bail application told the court that De Mendonca was previously charge with similar offences and is presently on $150,000 bail.
The lawyer added that her client had an unblemished record prior to this incident. She asked the court for De Mendonca to be admitted to the same bail which was granted on the previous charges.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail and asked for the matters to be transferred to another court.
That application was granted by the magistrate and bail was set at $150,000. De Mendonca is expected to make another court appearance on April 26.
Earlier this month, De Mendonca was charged with similar offences.
He was accused of stealing $162,730 from the Guyana Revenue Authority between September 11 and September 30, 2009. A second charge stated that he stole $466,160 between October 10 and October 30, 2009.
